Exploring 80 Million Ridership Achievement of Peshawar BRT in 2023

The Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) reached a significant milestone by serving eighty million passengers this year. According to TransPeshawar or Zu Peshawar– the service operator around 215 million individuals have availed the service since the commencement in August 2020. It is worth mentioning that there is a significant change in gender dynamics among commuters, as females make up thirty percent of the total Peshawar BRT route.

The Route: From Chamkani to Karkhano

TransPeshawar initial phase comprises an east–west busway, having thirty stations, that stretches from Chamkani in the east of Peshawar to the Karkhano market in the western part of the city. The Peshawar BRT buses arrive every three minutes during rush hours and every five minutes during non-peak hours.

The BRT Fleet

Recently, the service has added 62 new buses which makes the total 244 buses in the fleet. The buses provide free Wi-Fi connectivity to give internet access to the commuters. The buses are delivered by Xiamen Golden Dragon Bus Company Limited.

After the gaining popularity of the Peshawar BRT, the service is proactively expanding its operations to meet the increasing demand. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of TransPeshawar, Dr. Tariq Usman Saeed said that their ongoing efforts to make the system more welcoming for specially-abled individuals reflect their dedication to ensure that everyone can access and benefit from their services seamlessly. The advancements signify a substantial leap forward in enhancing Peshawar's public transportation system, demonstrating a dedication not only to the rise in ridership but also to inclusivity and service improvement.
